Joan Turner

My most powerful recollection of the wonder of nature is as a child, one sunny day on the family farm. Sitting by a little creek -- my feet in the cool water -- listening to the gentle silence and absorbing the warmth of the earth. Time seemed to stand still, the world turning so slowly. To be able to live every day like that!

My love of growing things lead me to try and capture their wonder on canvas.

In 1999 I purchased art materials and plunged into the magic of painting. A kind member of the Oak Bay Community Artists Society invited me to participate in the Oak Bay Studio Tour. To my great surprise and delight, my vivid acrylic florals were well received.

Since then I have participated in the twice yearly tours and three Bowker Creek Brush-Ups.

Flowers continue to be my main focus. My greatest encouragement is from people telling me that the vibrant colours in my paintings make them feel happy.
