Imke Pearson
I taught English and Mathematics before I pursued a 30 year stained glass career, creating
commissioned, window-installations in Victoria and abroad. In 1986 I began painting seriously and
like a musician who plays many instruments, I now paint watercolours and acrylics, in many
different ways: urban scenes, house portraits, botanicals, underwater scenes, negative painting
done by lifting colour, monotypes and also abstracts.
However, because I love pushing limits, my latest series of acrylics on large canvases are
close-ups of local and international dancers and performers. I have finally combined my passion for
dance and painting.
Earlier, when I had more time, I was an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and
the Island Illustrators. I exhibited in both the Sooke and the Sidney Fine Arts Shows and
demonstrated in many Moss Street Paint-Ins. Then in 2004, I decorated one of the eight foot Orca
sculptures that was auctioned off for charity.
I am also a founding member of the Oak Bay Community Artists Society and coordinated both the 2005
and 2006 paint-ins -- Oak Bay Bowker Creek Brush-Up. Presently I participate in the Oak Bay Studio
Tour, twice a year, and love to paint with our three granddaughters every chance I get.
