She is interested in a variety of subjects, especially figures and is currently enrolled as a part time student at the Vancouver Island School of Art. |
Rosa Marvin Arbour | I have been painting off and on for many years in Latin America and the U.S.A. For the last 25 years I have done Stone Sculptures and had several shows in New York and New Jersey. Since arriving in Victoria I've rediscovered my oilpaints and I'm back trying to capture the beautiful and ever changing landscape. |

Benita Blundell |
Benita was born and raised in the rural town of Maple Bay, just north of
Victoria in British Columbia.
Influenced to start drawing by her grandmother, Benita soon discovered she had a talent for impressionistic art. Benita attended the Vancouver School of Art and over the years has continued to study and practice impressionist watercolours. Her studies and search for new subjects have taken her through Canada, Asia, Europe and South America. Her work has been exhibited in the Broadmead Gallery, the Sooke Fine Art's Show and in many private showings. Benita continues to enjoy experiencing her work through the eyes of others and hopes that you find her work reflects your memory of a special time and place that is often overlooked. |
Jane Bosworth | I was born in Glasgow Scotland and moved to Victoria four years ago. I have been painting for 10 years in both water colour & acrylic. |
Charlene Brown | Charlene Brown took up watercolour painting briefly as a teenager at the Banff School of Fine Arts, then didn't get back to it until she was living in the Middle East in the 1990s. There, she wrote 'travel painting' articles for the Gulf News and the Khaleej Times. Some of her work can be seen on her website www.painteverymountain.ca. She now does mixed media and computer paintings as well as watercolour. |
Barbara Burns | This versatile artist has been involved in the Victoria Arts scene for 30 years. She is well known for her portraits and figures. Her large oil "Mother and Child" hangs in St. George's Chapel and other works hang in the Maltwood Museum permanent collection as well as in private and corporate collections worldwide. Although basically a "realist", her watercolours are impressionistic. |
Charles Dool | Charles Dool - initial studies '62/'65, University of Alberta, Edmonton. Retired to Victoria in 1994 and studied Botanical Watercolour for a year and the rest has been a retirement hobby of exploring and enjoyment of that specialized field. Paintings are represented in 8 countries and 5 Canadian Provinces. |
Maureen Doyle | Maureen Doyle has been interested in art all her life. Visiting private and public collections in Canada and abroad has been an important aspect of her travels. Retirement to Victoria has given Maureen the opportunity to study drawing and and watercolour sketching. This year Maureen attended a watercolour portraiture workshop given by Catherine Moffet and currently she is part time a student at the Vancouver Island School of Art. The human figure and portraiture continue to be Maureen's area of interest. |
Rose Ellis | I have enjoyed watercolour painting for the past 15 years and have taken a few classes. I do not work at it all the time, only when there are no other distractions. I paint occasionally at Goward House on Thursday afternoons with a group of artists. I love the movement of the ocean and continually try to capture that as well as misty and mysterious sea and landscapes. Occasioinally I like to paint flowers. |
Peg Francis |
Peg has been a hobby painter for more than 30 years, attending classes
in Victoria taught by Stephen Lowe, Memory Beck, Ed Harris and Glenn
Matthews. She has had pictures in a number of shows and Saanichton
Fairs, and has won six ribbons at various times.
She says she likes to "generally paint understandable subjects in cheerful colours" but lately has had fun doing abstract pictures, often with a geometric foundation. Peg has lived in Saanich for over 50 years and raised three sons and a daughter. After retiring from teaching she was able to devote more time to her love of this creative hobby. |
George Fraser | George Fraser was born in Ayr, Scotland and came to Canada in 1957. His first exposure to art was in Toronto in 1958 and he moved to Victoria in 1963. In 1991, George retired and devoted more of his time to his passion for painting and began to explore the use of watercolour. He continues to experiment with different mediums; however oils continue to be his favourite. When George is not painting he enjoys walks, gardening, music and most of all spending time with this family. |
Joe Girard |
Raised On rural Vancouver Island, I find that I tend to go back
to my earlier days for my Art inspiration. The "Best of Times"
were those of mucking around in boats and wandering along our costal beaches.
During my career as a public librarian, I did not find much time for Art work. On retirement, in 1995, I tried some watercolouring as a possible hobby, found it intriguing enough to pursue courses and workshops. I have been so blessed to find this to be an excellent retirement hobby. |
Eleanor Hall | Eleanor Hall began painting in oils many years ago while living in Montreal. After moving to Victoria she spent a few years painting watercolour but eventually went back to her first love-oils, concentrating mainly on landscapes and local scenes. |
Irene Khurana | I was born in Switzerland where I studied architectural design. I persued studies in graphic design and worked as a commercial artist. Since completing a Visual Arts degree, UVic, I have worked and experimented with a variety of mediums and subjects. My art is about my own journey and the discovery of the complexity of the natural world. In portraiture I seek an emotional response by expressing the peculiar likeness and character of the individual - a process continually challenging and rewarding. My work has been exhibited in various juried shows and art galleries. |
Bill McKechnie | Born Nairn, Scotland, in 1936. Went to sea all my life. Retired as a Senior Master with BC Ferries in 2001. Have dabbled in art most of my life; I just enjoy it. |
Anne Millar | I was born, grew up and live in Victoria, BC. At present I paint in two mediums, Watercolour and the art of Painting on Porcelain. I find that one medium complements the other and I bring techniques from one art form to the other. I taught Porcelain Art from 1986 to 2002. I now devote my time to painting to please myself. |
Bonny Myers | Bonny Myers (BONITA) began painting as a child and has taken formal classes and workshops and worked in many artistic mediums off and on ever since. Her photographs are the tools and memories from which she paints, in a realistic style, landscapes of local and travel scenes. Her works, signed BONITA, are currently in private collections in Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, Sydney (Australia), Vancouver and Victoria. |
Amy Nohales-Kezes | Amy’s love of nature has been the main source of inspiration for her paintings. In her work she focuses on capturing the essence of nature, the vibrant colours, the contrasts of light and deep shadows and the energy that radiates from within, bringing forth new themes and creations on a regular basis. |
Elizabeth Parnis | Elizabeth Parnis studied Brush Painting in Ontario in 1979 and taught brushpainting for several years before coming to Victoria, where she continues to study with Andy Lou. She has had several solo shows in Ontario and in Victoria, and also been part of group shows. |
Shirley Roberts | I have been doing watercolours for many years. The flow of colours and their reaction to the light source is something I try to get just right. The best part of art is the people you meet in your journey to the next painting. |
Alice Webster | Balancing in a Rowboat while painting a waterscape can be challenging – but there’s plenty of water to dip into for that salty watercolor! Purposely changing my lifestyle from an Interior Design career, Ceramist, and single parent, to traveling and sailing round the world, gave me a different life view. A bonus was that it also freed up time to pursue a lifelong interest - drawing and painting. My sketches bring back memories of sun-drenched anchorages – little wonder that light fascinates me – as do boats!! Having left life afloat last year and settled in beautiful Victoria I am now looking at the land with fresh eyes - and evolving! At present I am concentrating on pen and ink sketches and watercolors. |
Harald Wetklo | Harald was a business owner and professional dental technician for 30 years. Busy in his practice, he always found time to pursue photography and spend time in nature. For the past five years he has committed himself to exploring the medium of water color and has studied with several local artists. Landscapes, seascapes and florals are some of his favourite subjects. Some art work develops for him spontaneously as an abstract. |
