Jill Winstanley, a self-taught oil painter, resides in Sooke, BC, Canada. Being born and raised on
Vancouver Island has definitely inspired her creativity and her appreciation of nature on the West
Coast. She has been working as a full time artist from her home studio since 2003.
Her work can be seen in Canadian Galleries and is part of many private collections around the
world. Adding to the list of her latest accomplishments, she was selected by the Internal
Committee of Arte Studio-Firenze to be one of 27 Canadians who represented Canada in Italy at
the 2005 International Florence Biennale
"As long as nature keeps springing forth with such vibrant beauty, I will never have a lack of
inspiration . It is not my intent to ‘make a statement’ with my art. I paint what I see and it
is the feeling from the moment that I try to transfer to the canvas. I am truly in awe every
day at the delicate balance between the plants and various insects that frequent my gardens, and
the force of nature that is always prominent on the coast fixes me with its beauty. If I can
capture a wee bit of that activity on canvas, I feel I have achieved my goal.
A finished piece is always my inspiration for the next."
